Consider the impact of your actions. Our lives often move too fast for us to take the time to notice the wonder of the earth. It's quick and easy to "Earth-strategize" by seeking opportunities for personal practices that are Earth-conscious. Practice waste awareness by grabbing less paper napkins, skipping the ATM receipt, or bringing your own mug to work instead of using the disposable cups.
Make Earth-friendly choices. Every product you buy presents an opportunity for you to conserve energy and embrace green technology. Heating and cooling our homes accounts for 45 percent of our monthly utility bills. Turn down the thermostat in the winter and draw the blinds or curtains in hot weather because every degree warmer or cooler represents big savings for both you and the planet.
Recycle, reuse, repair. Consider all the material possessions you own. Choose to take as much care as needed to extend the lives of these items. Within the next month, sew a tear, pass on unneeded items to others, and find ways to encourage recycling at home or at work. Not only is this good for the planet, but the business recycling is profitable and also contributes to the job market.
Work together. Choose to be aware of the myriad opportunities to meet your needs within your community. Take one week to discover local sources for your daily needs: food, entertainment, services, and other necessities and tasks.
Cherish the Earth's precious gifts. The next time you take a walk, take a hike, go for a bike ride, or go for a swim, bring a friend or family member along. Enjoy the day. Talk about what you see in nature around you. Smile. You are alive!
