Why It's Important to Keep Track of Your Company's Social Media

Determining what role social media plays in your company is important to the long-term health of your brand. It's important to understand what you need to commit in time and resources to make social media be an effective tool for growing your company. That is a major reason why social media monitoring can help you build an effective strategy toward building through social media channels.

Social media demands a substantial commitment - both financially and in human capital. Here are a few measures you can use to track the return on investment (ROI) for your company:

• Set measurement goals:
Your ROI measurement should be connected to a specific outcome from the beginning. Maybe it is improved customer service or product promotion. Maybe it is putting a face on your brand. Regardless, you should already have in mind exactly what it is you want to achieve.

• Measure user replies:
You can track the dialogue users have with your company. Are their conversations positive or negative? Is the volume of conversations growing? Do these elements compare favorably with your competitors?

• Measure interested followers:
Are users interested in sharing content and messages received through your company? If so, they may offer access to their own follower networks. If not, you may want to rethink whom your target user base should be.

• Apply effective keyword strategies:
Tie your brand to specific keywords that will allow consumers to find your brand quicker and easier. Effective keyword usage in search engines can imprint your brand on a user's mind.

• Click through awareness:
How many users find your company through social media portals? You should have an idea of how many customers come to your site through a social media channel like Facebook or Twitter and how that percentage directly impacts your company.
