(Tampa, FL) - Robert Mazur mesmerizes readers in his new book, "The Infiltrator: My Secret Life Inside the Dirty Banks Behind Pablo Escobar's Medellin Cartel," as he describes his life threatening journey during a federal undercover investigation into the realms of world size banks, money laundering and the Medellin Drug Cartel.
When describing Mazur's real-life role in the "The Infiltrator," Senator John Kerry wrote, "Mazur not only took the lead undercover role but fought valiantly against the bureaucratic difficulties... It was as significant an accomplishment as we have seen in law enforcement in recent times."
After training with criminal divisions of the IRS and US Customs, Robert Mazur spent a year-and-a-half setting up a false identity as a man called "Robert Musella."
To unsuspecting and wealthy criminals, Robert Musella became a friend who wined and dined them in his lavish homes in Miami, Tampa and Manhattan.
Utilizing a believable street thug, Musella was eventually able to gain the confidence of high ranking officials in the Medellin Drug Cartel led by kingpin Pablo Escobar.
During an interview, Barry Leibowitz of "48 Hours Mystery" wanted to know just how close Musella got to Escobar. Musella (Robert Mazur) replied, "I dealt with his primary attorney and close adviser, Santiago Uribe, a man who was later linked by others to the assassination of government officials in Colombia on Escobar's behalf...."
In the end, Musella brought down one of the world's largest money laundering organizations, the Bank of Credit & Commerce International (BCCI) which was the 7th largest independently owned bank in the world at the time with branches in 72 countries.
